The Heart of the Runaway: an Article, a Book, a Friendship

Filson commissioned this profile piece on Liberty Miller, who at the time worked as the only year-round live-aboard for the Boat Company. A shortened version of the story was published with permission by the Boat Company, and the original appeared in Filson Life.

But our partnership didn't end there — Liberty then hired me to do edit her full length memoir, which ended up borrowing its name from the article:
Heart of the Runaway. For the book, I did developmental editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. We were so happy with the final result! Liberty has lived an absolutely fascinating and adventurous life, including being on the TV show Whale Wars, and it comes through in this book and for anyone who meets her. I feel lucky to now count her as a friend.
